Endoscopy

Minimally Invasive Diagnostics & Treatment with the Storz Telepack System

At North Richmond Vet Hospital, we use the Storz Telepack endoscopy system to perform advanced minimally invasive procedures for dogs, cats, and small exotic animals. Endoscopy allows us to visually examine internal structures without invasive surgery—leading to faster diagnoses, reduced recovery times, and improved outcomes.

What is Endoscopy?

Endoscopy involves using a specialised camera and light source attached to a flexible or rigid scope to examine areas such as the gastrointestinal tract, airways, ears, or reproductive system. It allows for direct visualisation and the collection of biopsies without large incisions.

Our Endoscopic Services

Using our Storz system, we are able to perform a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures:

Gastroscopy

  • Investigation of chronic vomiting, regurgitation, or gastrointestinal bleeding
  • Foreign body retrieval from the stomach
  • Visual diagnosis of ulcers, tumours, or inflammation

Ear Videoscopy

  • Evaluation and treatment of chronic ear infections
  • Visualisation of the eardrum
  • Flushing and cleaning of the ear canal

Transcervical Insemination (TCI)

  • Used in breeding management as a non-invasive alternative to surgical AI
  • Scope-guided catheter placement allows for accurate semen deposition
  • Minimal discomfort, typically performed without sedation

Bronchoscopy

  • Visual examination of the trachea and bronchi
  • Helpful in diagnosing chronic coughing, airway collapse, or inhaled foreign bodies
  • Allows sampling for culture and cytology

Endoscopic Intubation of Small Mammals

  • Used to safely intubate challenging species like guinea pigs and rabbits
  • Enhances safety during anaesthesia by allowing precise tube placement

Benefits of Endoscopy

  • Minimally invasive: Less pain and faster recovery than surgery
  • Excellent visual detail: Real-time visualisation of internal structures
  • Diagnostic precision: Allows targeted biopsies and cultures
  • Versatile applications: Used across a wide range of species and clinical problems

Patient Safety and Comfort

Endoscopic procedures are performed under general anaesthesia or sedation depending on the application. Our team follows strict anaesthetic protocols and uses advanced monitoring to ensure your pet’s comfort and safety at every step.
